The Montessori Training Center of Minnesota (MTCM) was established in 1973. The course prepares adults to teach ages 2 1/2 to 6 years, and is accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale, the organization founded by Dr. Montessori. The MTCM's student population is truly international, with students from around the world participating in the nine-month course which begins in September each year. The Training Center is located at 683 Dodd Road in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is well known for its long and enthusiastic support of the Montessori method. Today, there are more than 75 schools in Minnesota alone, ranging from preschool through junior high levels, creating a supportive educational environment and a fertile area in which to build your career. The Training Center is a member of the North American Montessori Teachers' Association (NAMTA). NAMTA provides a medium for study, interpretation, improvement and enhancement of Montessori education. These purposes are accomplished through a widespread communication system of periodicals, an audio-visual library, workshops and research. NAMTA endeavors to create real services designed for the teacher and the school. The Training Center is also a member of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). MACTE is an autonomous international nonprofit accrediting agency for courses which prepare Montessori teachers. |
