MTCM offers a unique afternoon format in order to accommodate students' need to work part time. The academic school year runs from early September to the end of May. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 1 - 5:30 p.m. Calendars are sent to students prior to September informing them of assignment due dates, observation weeks, student teaching session times and holidays. Observation Requirement Format Ninety hours of observation at area schools is required. Sixty hours (two weeks) are scheduled in the fall at two different schools. During each week, the student observes in the morning and afternoon at the school. Students do not attend classes at the Training Center at this time. The remaining 30 hours are done independently by the student during morning hours and should be completed by the end of January. Student Teaching Requirement Format In the spring, two three-week sessions of student teaching are required. The Training Center arranges for the student to practice teach at two area school sites. Hours depend upon the operational hours of the particular school, but generally run from about 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. During student teaching, class is held at the Training Center on alternate Fridays from 1-5:30 p.m. |
